My Discovery of Mrs. Green Apple

I was drawn to the Japanese music scene today because I just realized one of my favorite artists (Ayumi Hamasaki) is having her 15th anniversary tour right now and the DVD of her tour will be out once she is finished! I will cover this in the future. This of course led to me this giant rabbit hole that is Japanese music.

There are so many bands out there, especially newer ones. I’d love to share Mrs. Green Apple. Here are a couple snippets of their songs from their newest and only full album “Twelve”:

One thing I really love is the origin of the band name, the “Green Apple.” It has the meaning of “now” as a beginner later to become a red apple. The name is also really adorable, but enough about the name…

Their sound reminds me of what pop rock sounds like, maybe not super “poppy.” When I listen to it in full it gives me a lot of energy! It’s perfect for bouncing up and down and banging your head around. Sometimes I just need to that, I’ll be honest.

I really have to mention how Japan seems to have a larger appreciation for female drummers than us Westerners. I’m really digging that. Female drummers and bassists are seriously some of the most attractive people on stage (I’m biased, sorry.) That’s just my opinion of course, but most bands from Japan I’ve done research on seem to have female drummers.

If you like Mrs. Green Apple, grab their full album “Twelve” on Amazon. You can also get their mini albums Variety and Progressive on Amazon as well! I had to get one mini album to start, I’ll wait on the others.

Their cover art is very diverse too! I didn’t realize it was the same person at first, but it is!
